Shawn Demaray

Certifications: CSCS, CPT

Athletics has been a part of Shawn’s life since he was a young child. A naturally gifted athlete, Shawn rapidly emerged as a standout in whatever sport he took part in. His athletic and academic excellence would offer numerous opportunities at the collegiate level, leading him eventually to the University of Maine where he continued to excel as a Division 1 Offensive Lineman. Shawn’s performances on the football field and in the classroom would offer him many accolades and awards.
Upon graduating in exercise science after completion of his bachelors degree in physical education, Shawn elected to pursue his Masters Degree. He took various coaching and teaching positions at Maine Maritime Academy and Husson University before ultimately fulfilling his dream of returning to the University of Maine as an assistant coach. Sensing a need for it in the community and hoping to fulfill his desire to be a positive influence on young athletes, Shawn formed Queen City Athletics, LLC in 2019. He rapidly emerged as a commodity in the industry and one of the more sought-after trainers in his community. Shawn currently works with athletes of all ages ranging from middle school aged, to high school, to Division 1 collegiate athletes, to professional athletes.

Jared Smith

Certified Personal Trainer

Born in the greater Bangor area, Jared Smith began his wrestling and football careers early within the Brewer youth programs. As a high schooler at John Bapst, Jared earned a spot as a starter on the varsity football team all four years and was nominated for the 1st Team All-Conference Defensive Line. Jared found his real passion in wrestling, competing both within the State of Maine and at the National level. Upon graduating, Jared elected to attend the University of Maine where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education with a concentration in Exercise Science. While completing his degree he was able to complete a yearlong internship with Umaine Sports Performance where he got hands-on experience training a wide variety of teams and collegiate-level athletes. Jared is focused on using his combined knowledge and experience to ensure that every athlete he works with is able to perform at their highest level.

Cody Ward

Certified Personal Trainer

A recent graduate from the University of Maine, Cody has been part of Maine-based athletics for as long as he can remember. Throughout his high school years AT Oceanside High School he was captain of both wrestling and track & field teams and, upon graduating, frequently returned to help the new athletes by volunteering to run their team workouts. Cody attended the University of Maine where he spent three years working as a personal trainer at the New Balance Student Recreation Center. His time there gained him exposure to working with a vast array of clientele and numerous learning opportunities from other trainers. Eager for more experience and progression, Cody soon began an internship with the University’s Strength and Conditioning Program where he took on a more involved role in developing Division 1 athletes from many different sports. During this time he also had the opportunity to work with coaches and trainers with many years of experience in training collegiate-level athletes. Cody is looking to establish himself as an Athletic Development Coach and progress and educate local athletes by using retained skills, coaching mechanisms, and principles instilled in him by his own coaches. Aware of the impact his coaches had on him, he hopes to impart those same values to the athletes he gets to work with and, in turn, progress athletics through the State as a whole.

David Gross

David Gross was born locally in Bangor and grew up in Orland, Maine where he attended Bucksport High School. David grew up playing a wide variety of sports from baseball, to basketball, and to wrestling and football where he found his true passions. David spent the last four years playing football at the University of Maine where he finished as a top 10 highest graded offensive lineman by PFF in 2022. David had a tremendous career for the black bears only allowing one sack across his entire career across over 20 games. Unfortunately David’s College career was cut a few years short as he discovered he suffers from ankylosing spondylitis (A spinal condition that deteriorates your mid back) and spondylosis (stress fractures in your low spine).
David was a very successful student athlete while at Bucksport. David graduated with a 3.7 GPA, was a Honors student, involved in Student Council, National Honors Society and volunteered avidly in his community. Looking at football David was awarded the Frank Gazino Offensive Lineman of the year award (Given out to the best Lineman Across the entire state of Maine) in 2019. David was also an AllConference Lineman for all four years of high school as he was a Three time First Team Offensive Lineman and Four Time First Team Defensive Lineman. To add to that David won the LTC “Toogie Mckay” Offensive Lineman of the year Award in 2018 & 2019 and the “Bob Charmichael” LTC Defensive Lineman of the year award in 2017 & 2019. David became the first player in LTC history to win Player of the Year and Offensive and Defensive Lineman of the year in the same season.
To add to David’s football resume David also has an impressive resume in wrestling. David was a Maine Class B and All State Champion in 2017 and 2019. In 2017, David became the first freshman to ever win a state championship in the 285 weight class. To add to that David was a New England Finalist where he lost to Mateuz Kudra, the #9th ranked wrestler in the country 5-4. David also set the State record for fastest pin at four seconds in 2019, which got him ranked as one of the top HeavyWeight wrestlers in the nation by USA Wrestling. David started working with us at Queen City Athletics in January, where he set his vision to be something that he never had growing up. A football specific coach and trainer. David may specialize with Football and wrestling specific training but has opened his clientele to all athletes as well. David has now worked with Basketball, Hockey, Lacrosse, Soccer, Baseball and Track athletes as well and is open to clients of all ages and all backgrounds. David has a goal to not only help his athletes grow bigger, faster and stronger physically but mentally as well. He wants to help young athletes grow into young adults and not only see them succeed within their sport but within life as well.
